Notes and Discussion Questions - Excuses

Notes and Discussion Questions, "Excuses" by Greg Sidders

Excuses

Listen to "Excuses" by Greg Sidders, Sunday, 04-24-16

Is there any excuse for ignoring the needs of those who have less than we do?

Sure.  Actually, there are many. And we are (or at least I am) adept at using them. But when we scrutinize our excuses biblically, loopholes close and God's will for us is clarified.

If you have a tendency to justify inaction in this area of your life, I hope you will listen to this Sunday's service with a readiness to change--because generosity not only benefits the poor; it makes life better for you, too.

Notes and Discussion Questions - Tension

Tension

Their physical needs are obvious, but they are oblivious to their spiritual needs. What should you do?

This is the tension we feel as conduits of God's compassion and possessors of the secret of eternal life. Is it enough to meet temporary felt needs? Or should we address unfelt eternal needs?

This Sunday at White Pine, we're going to find an answer in the example of the One who always did it right--Jesus.

Disguise

What difference can $1 make? In the pocket of a Spirit-filled follower of Jesus, more than you can imagine.

Last Sunday we began a five-week process of forming a habit of generosity toward those who have less than we have. If you were at church, you were entrusted with a $1 bill and challenged to make a difference is someone's life with it. This Sunday we will invite those who have given their dollar bill away to share their story, and we will continue to renew our minds with Scriptures that tell us what Jesus wants us to do for the least of His brothers and sisters.

Blind

Listen to "Blind" by Greg Sidders, Sunday, 04-03-16

There's no avoiding them.

You simply can't live with a Spirit-renewed mind and Spirit-filled heart and not notice that there are people all around you who lack what you have. The question is, what does God want you to do about it?

For the weeks leading up to our annual Give Love Away Day (May 1), we will be letting the Scriptures expose and overhaul how we respond to the needs of the poor. It's a critical part of following Jesus, and there is great joy in reckless obedience.
